Drink of the Week - The Cascade Room ‘Hemingway Daiquiri’

From Hawksworth Communications:
This week’s Drink of the Week is a ‘Hemingway Daiquiri’ that we tasted over at The Cascade Room on Main Street. Just a short walk from Broadway, the Cascade Room has become a hip and happening neighbourhood hub. The Cascade Room has an aggressive cocktail program led by Nick Devine who brings experience from San Francisco and London. We were certainly impressed with the cocktail list and decided on the 'Old School Classic' Hemingway Daiquiri, recommended by one of the servers. If you’re ever in the area we definitely recommend checking in at this spot!

The Hemingway Daiquiri is a heavy measure of Cuban white rum shaken with hand pressed lime, fresh ping grapefruit juice and a dash of maraschino liquer.

Bittered Sling Bistro

A big thanks to Lauren Mote and Chef Johnathan Chovancek of Kale & Nori for hosting the second "Bitter Sling Bistro" event at Legacy Liquor Store. Featuring Cascade's (and soon to be The Union's) own Arthur Wynne, the bartending challenge last night was to create cocktails using Maker's Mark bourbon to pair with the evening's food.

The drinks Arthur prepared started with a cocktail of Makers Mark, fig gastrique, roasted yam puree and prosecco; followed for the main course with: Makers Mark, chamomile simple syrup, thai basil leaves, cilantro, lime and soda water; and finishing off for dessert with Makers Mark, okanagan apple compote with cracked long pepper, apple juice, cigar infused cream, flame spritzed with ceylon cinnamon infused rum.

So, we may be a little biased, but we think Arthur did a brilliant job!

Bitter Sling Bistro is a twice monthly event. Check out their site for info about upcoming events.

"Triv & Let Die"

The Cascade Room's Arthur Wynne channels Goldfinger henchman, Oddjob, behind the bar.

Congratulations to the team of "Triv & Let Die" who took out last night's James Bond 007 Quiz, sneaking home by a point! And a big thanks to Murray Gillespie of Bond Decor Design for co-hosting the event and supplying all the amazing 007 memorabilia. It was a great night of Bond music, fashion and trivia questions! We thought we knew a thing or two about 007, but that pales next to someone like Murray!!

If you want to stay up to date on all things Bond, sign up to Murray's twitter and get all the news in the lead up to Bond 23 next year!
